Weekend Adventures

It’s been a pretty good weekend around here. The weather has most definitely been on our side and nothing all weekend has been rained out which is kinda surprising given the recent weather.

We’ll take it back to Thursday. I went and saw Prostaff (another temp agency) which hopefully I can at least find something temporary for a little while.

Friday was quite the day. We went out to Joe’s house in the early afternoon for his neighborhood pig roast. And let me tell ya, it was damn good pig. Even Amber ate some and enjoyed it. Next was an Ole party in Minneapolis where there was a definite lack of meat for a while (what’s wrong with people? :-)) and the evening ended with Taste of Minnesota and Fireworks in St. Paul. They moved it from the Capital where it’s been forever to Harriet Island down on the river. It was a pretty cool place for it, it took forever to get into the park from downtown St. Paul but it was surprisingly easy to get out of there, which when it was down at the Capital it could be a good hour and a half to get out of the traffic jams.

And Saturday at about 5 Amber and I decided that it would be fun to go see the Twins game. Yeah it was fun but damn I hate to go to a game where they lose that bad….

Canada Day

16 Tons and what do you get? Another day older and deeper in debt. St. Peter don’t you call me ’cause I can’t go. I owe my soul to Wells Fargo.

Update

So I finally got around to updating some of the other pages of my website including updating and adding some more links to some of the links pages as well as making them fit in with the look of the front page. I still haven’t updated the Pictures pages but what do you expect? 🙂

Return to Wireless Posting

So for those who haven’t heard Rich bitching about how crappy the wireless connection has been from his laptop since the installation of the LinkSys card and router I’m thinking that I discovered a way to make it work better… I found something online about how if the antennas were horizontal it worked better and sure enough I’m finding that now that I moved them to be horizontal I can comfortably surf the net from the couch again. It’s still not perfect and I think that I might have to do some more playing with the antennas to try and find the optimal antenna configuration.

DNS moved

So I finally moved my DNS… The stupid email on the old host has been causing people problems for days again so I made an executive decision not to wait until the weekend like I wanted to. I hope that it will propagate quickly and I actually think that it might since there is the new folks running the .org root servers

so hang on it could be a bumpy ride 🙂

New servers new Design

So I thought that if I’m moving my website to new servers that I really need to do a redesign of the site again so here it is… I’m not sure how it’s going to end up yet since I’m still working on it but hopefully I’m all done by the time anyone reads this.

Texas Redistricting

Another interesting article this time from the AP http://abcnews.go.com/wire/US/ap20030513_1040.html about Texas’ House attempts to re draw the district lines. (Is it obvious that I’m pretty bored today?) There are some great quotes including one comparing the run away Democrats to Terrorists 🙂

Basicly a bunch of Texas Democrats ran to Oklahoma so that the Texas House of Representatives couldn’t actually get a quorum thus blocking legislation to redraw the U.S. House of Representitive district lines.

I’m not sure how I feel about this. They ran off to try and keep the Republicans from redrawing the districts in such a way that they could take over half a dozen more House seats next election. I can totally understand that Democrats want to force the Republican controled House to focus on other topics that they think are more important (and probably are) but I just don’t feel that this is the way to do what they want. Redistricting in their favor is something that both sides try and do whenever they have the chance. But what they’re doing is setting a bad precident where if people don’t like a bill coming up why not just go ahead and run away to block leglislation.

What I’d like to do here…

I just came across this really cool site via zeldman showing just how powerful CSS can be. The Zen Garden is a site where people can submit their own stylesheet to change the entire look of the site without actually changing any of the actual information. I highly suggest checking it out for quite a shock on just how much influence CSS will have if people will just start using them.
